People's Choice awards nominations are out...

and despite the fact that they have no relevance in the larger awards season, they are a great indication of what “America’s youth” are into today. I really didn’t know that One Direction is so big, I thought they were kind of a joke, but I see now that they are quite serious.

I find two aspects of the PCA quite interesting.

1. That they divide the movie and television categories into genres, which allows for more shows/movies/actors to be included and recognized and for more fans to feel included in the show. A concept that other awards shows recognize but can’t figure out how to implement into their already rigged structure (i.e. the Academy allowing 10 films to be nominated for best picture). It’s strange that one of the lowest award shows on the awards show totum poll would be the most inclusive. But I guess that snobbery for you.

2. I liked that they included ‘best fandoms’ categories. Clearly the CPA has recognized that a majority of their fanbase communicate online and should be recognized for their devotion to the show/movie. It’s great really odd, since the entire point of an awards show if for the industry to self-congratulate each other. For the first time, Hollywood is congratulating the fans who keep them in business. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Academy can learn a thing or two from the CPA.

Also Channing Tatum got nominated a million times, making the CPA the best awards show ever.
